• Question: What made you become a scientist and what did you do before you were one ?

      I became a scientist because I like solving problems. As a scientist I mostly sit at my desk and try to figure out how planets form, why the Solar System looks like it does, and why when we discover planets around other stars they can look nothing like the Solar System. I think those are pretty cool problems to be trying to solve each day (it’s pretty hard!).

      Many years ago I worked in the music industry. I did lots of heavy lifting since sound gear is heavy, but also got to use cool toys. If you google images “crest audio console vx” you’ll see the kind of mixing desk I used to use! I also worked with some cool bands, though they were mostly in New Zealand and it was so long ago you won’t have heard of them!
