I’m a Theoretical physicist, which means I get to create a whole universe in my mind described by beautiful mathematical equations. Unlike Experimental (Particle, Astro) physicists who play with things like particle accelerators or telescopes and collect data, the experiments I get to do are thought experiments limited to as far as my imagination can take me! Einstein was a well-known theoretical physicist and its remarkable to think that the theories he came up with to explain the nature of light and gravity were initiated as a result of some simple thought experiments and were based on pure mathematical theory. Yet since then, the predictions that he made have been confirmed by countless experiments to an extraordinary level of accuracy and without them we wouldn’t be able to use many modern technologies that we take for granted today. Another famous thought experiment is Schrödinger’s cat, which explores some of the weird features of the Quantum world – in your mind, which is a relief for the cat!
…Oh and Blackholes are my game 🙂 – Feel free to ask me questions regarding this or anything and I’ll try my best to answer them.
-
My Typical Day:
Its hard to say exactly as its never the same but I’m always pondering the nature of reality, time and space as these things tend to get twisted and pushed to the extremes near a blackhole.
-
What I'd do with the prize money:
I would use the money to fund and help those less fortunate around the world and those who don’t typically have the luxury to do physics for fun.

My Interview

How would you describe yourself in 3 words?
Crazy ambitious theorist
Were you ever in trouble at school?
A few times, some serious and others not so much (like for talking in class). I wasn’t trying to get in trouble though, it just kind of happened sometimes lol.
Who is your favourite singer or band?
It’s hard to pick a favorite as I enjoy different genre’s depending on my mood, but I do enjoy listening to Lowkey (UK Rapper) whom I’ve met in person at my university!
If you had 3 wishes for yourself what would they be? - be honest!
1) Get more people (like everyone!) interested in physics and to see the beauty in it that I do, 2) Get through to the end of my PhD, becoming Dr U Kayani while keeping my sanity intact and 3) I’d donate my last wish to YOU, what would YOU do? or I could ask for a time machine and start again from my first…or I could initiate an infinite loop: First wish: I wish that I had only one wish left. Last wish: I wish I had an infinite amount of wishes, repeat first wish.
Tell us a joke.
Two protons walk into a blackhole.
