This is going to sound lame, but we have a system for naming planets, where they get named after the star. The first planet has a “b” after it, the second one a “c”, etc. So one of my favourite planets is called HD 69830 d, because the star name comes from a big catalogue and is the 69,830th one in there, and the planet is the 3rd one in that system. Sorry!
If I did discover one I’d follow those rules, but to myself and my mates I’d give it a real (but probably silly) name, like “Bob” or something. So then people would ask me how Bob was going and I’d say “yeah pretty well”…
