I can’t tell you why you’re scared of space, personally I think it’s fascinating to look at (from the warmth and safety of Earth). Maybe the scary thing is that it’s so big, and makes us realise that our tiny planet is totally insignificant!

Of course, actually going to space would be really scary since it’s a dangerous place. There’s no air to breathe and it’s very cold, so you have to take your own air and spacesuit, and get there in a rocket of some kind. Coming back home is also pretty dangerous too. Even though we’ve had lots of practise over the years, there are lots of things that can and do go wrong, so from that point of view I also find it scary.

Sometimes I get more scared of space the more I know about it. But it does make me very thankfully to be living on a nice protected planet like Earth. Plus I still think everything out there is fascinating!

I know a couple of people who also find space scary to think about, because it’s just so BIG! Thinking of the scale of the Universe, and how small we are in it, can be a very scary thought indeed. Our brains just can’t cope with the thought of something stretching to infinity, it’s not something we can comprehend easily,

But really, there is nothing to be scared of 🙂 Maybe try reading more about it, or watching TV programmes, so that you can learn more about it, and realise what an amazing and beautiful thing space actually is. Maybe once you know a little more about it, you’ll find it less scary and more AWESOME! 🙂
