Question: Do you think there could be another universe/solar system similar to our own?

The Universe and Solar System are very different things, but there could be another of either of them.
The Universe is everything we know about, so all the other stars and galaxies. We can’t see out of our own Universe, so we can’t actually tell if there are other Universes, though there could be.
We’re constantly searching for other Solar Systems, and hope one day we’ll find on like our own. However, really what most people are hoping for is to find just another planet like Earth, so one that is the right temperature to have liquid water on the surface. This is the kind of planet that might have life. These are REALLY hard to find, and it will probably be years until we have a really good candidate, but the chances of finding one during our lifetimes are good!

In our search for new planets orbiting stars other then the Sun we’ve found hundreds of planets. And we’re getting better at finding them too, previously we could only really find the very big ones. In fact most people seem to think now that wherever planets could potentially be, they’re there! And we think we’ve found some that could be a bit like Earth in that they could be habitable. In terms of other Universes, some people think there may be others but as Grant says at the moment we don’t think we’d be able to detect them. In fact one interpretation of quantum physics says that the Universe splits into lots of different ones whenever a choice has to be made. Not everyone believes this but it’s great science fiction. So there might be Universe out there where you didn’t ask this question 😉
