• Question: do you like science when you was little

      Both of my parents worked as scientists, so I’ve known that it exists for as long as I can remember. I don’t know if that’s why I’m a scientist now but it might be.

      I know lots of scientists whose parents are teachers, businessmen, farmers, and other random things, so you can learn to love science even if your parents don’t do it for a job!

      My parents weren’t scientists, though my Dad did an electrical engineering degree at university. But I loved science when I was a kid and used to read loads of popular books on stuff like black holes, time, atoms etc. I found them fascinating and always wanted to know more, so I ended up doing a Physics degree and the rest is history.

      I loved science when I was little! It always involved doing really fun, hands-on experiments with chemistry kits/microscopes/telescopes, etc., to try and makes things fly/smell/make a noise/change colour… I can’t wait to have kids of my own so that I can buy THEM really cool science toys and get to play with them myself! 😀

      I did like it when I was little but I didn’t understand a lot of it but it did fascinate me nonetheless. I have always been fascinated with the nature of time and space and just stuff like time travel but going to college I decided I wanted to do computing because at the time I wasn’t that good at maths and I didn’t like it that much either! But as soon as I got to college, everything just clicked. Suddenly maths became fun, useful and it just appeared everywhere I looked. It seemed like the universe was written in this language, which naturally led to me to physics and rekindled my love for time.

      In some ways, I’ve been a scientist as long as I can remember! I liked to tinker with all sorts of electronics, and figure out how they worked. Plus I always LOVED thinking about space and all the possibilities “out there.” And I’d always be the kid asking “but WHY?!?!” over and over and over again to adults.

      That question – “WHY?!?!?!” – is at the heart of what we do. So if you like asking the adults in the room that question, that means you like science, too! 😀
